minimum wage tip credit in Arizona and Massachusetts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightmine.com\/us\/resources\/guides-how-to\/arizona-employment-law\/\">Arizona<\/a> Proposition 138 \u2014 which would have allowed employers to pay employees up to 25% less than the minimum hourly wage if the employer could establish that the employee&#8217;s wage plus tips or gratuities is at least $2.00 more than the minimum wage for every hour worked \u2014 was roundly rejected by a 25-75 margin, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/results.arizona.vote\/#\/featured\/47\/0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unofficial results<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightmine.com\/us\/resources\/guides-how-to\/massachusetts-employment-law\/\">Massachusetts<\/a> Question 5 \u2014 which would have gradually phased out the state&#8217;s minimum wage credit by 2029 and also have allowed employers to administer tip pools that distribute tips among all workers \u2014 was losing by a 36-64 margin at the time of publication, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/11\/05\/us\/elections\/results-massachusetts.html#I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Times<\/a> (Massachusetts does not publish unofficial results).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In the Seattle suburb of Everett, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightmine.com\/us\/resources\/guides-how-to\/washington-employment-law\/\">Washington<\/a>, Initiative 24-02 &#8211; which would have established a local minimum wage of $20.24 per hour for large employers starting in July 1, 2025, and then phased in the minimum wage for smaller employers over the next two years \u2014 was defeated by a 41-59 margin, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/snohomishcountywa.gov\/DocumentCenter\/View\/126685\/November-5-2024-General-Election-Unofficial-Results?bidId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unofficial results<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">At the time of publication, the race was still too close to call for minimum wage ballot initiatives in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightmine.com\/us\/resources\/guides-how-to\/alaska-employment-law\/\">Alaska<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightmine.com\/us\/resources\/guides-how-to\/california-employment-law\/\">California<\/a>. With 76% of votes in, Alaska&#8217;s measure had a commanding-but-not-insurmountable lead of 57-43. With 52% of votes in, California&#8217;s measure was losing 48-52.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The results suggest that voters may be losing their appetite for minimum wage increases. Before the November 5 election, all but two of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Minimum_wage_on_the_ballot#Outcomes_of_minimum_wage_measures.2C_1996-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">28 minimum wage increases that have appeared on the ballot since 1996<\/a><em> <\/em>had been approved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column lnrs-hide-block-on-mobile is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"border-left-color:var(--wp--preset--color--secondary-gray);border-left-width:2px;padding-left:10px;flex-basis:30%\">\n<div
