illegal DEI and accessibility preferences, mandates, policies, programs and activities in the private sector and in educational institutions that receive federal funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Bondi directed DOJ staff to submit a report no later than March 1 that addresses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-brightmine-list-item-spacing-small\">\n<li class=\"\">Key &#8220;sectors of concern&#8221; within the DOJ&#8217;s jurisdiction and the most &#8220;egregious and discriminatory&#8221; DEI and accessibility practitioners within those sectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Proposals for criminal and civil investigations of publicly traded corporations, large nonprofits and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2025\/01\/31\/2025-02097\/ending-illegal-discrimination-and-restoring-merit-based-opportunity#p-31\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">other entities<\/a> whose use of DEI or accessibility programs or principles constitutes &#8220;illegal discrimination or preferences.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Trump has said that race- and sex-based preferences adopted under DEI and accessibility programs can violate the text and spirit of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other federal civil rights laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Bondi&#8217;s memo says it &#8220;does not prohibit educational, cultural, or historical observances \u2014 such as Black History Month, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, or similar events \u2014 that celebrate diversity, recognize historical contributions, and promote awareness without engaging in exclusion or discrimination.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Many companies have scaled back or eliminated their DEI efforts in the wake of Trump&#8217;s orders. Others \u2014 most prominently, Costco and Apple \u2014 are holding the line for now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column lnrs-hide-block-on-mobile is-layout-flow
