Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the bills into law, and they take effect immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-paid-sick-leave-changes\">Paid Sick Leave Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The paid sick leave bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/Bills\/Bill?ObjectName=2025-HB-4002\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 4002<\/a>, amends Michigan&#8217;s Earned Sick Time Act to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Delay paid sick leave requirements for small employers (those with 10 or fewer employees) from February 21 to October 1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Repeal the requirement that small employers provide 32 hours of unpaid leave in addition to 40 hours of paid leave.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Allow small employers to cap carryover leave at 40 hours per year rather than 72 hours per year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Exempt certain employees who are allowed to schedule their own working hours; unpaid trainees and interns or trainees; and minors employed in accordance with the <a href=\"https:\/\/hrcenter.us.brightmine.com\/employment-law-guide\/child-labor-michigan\/466\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">state child labor laws<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">More.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;We saved small businesses tonight,&#8221; said one of the bill&#8217;s sponsors, State Rep. Greg Markkanen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-minimum-wage-changes\">Minimum Wage Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Notable changes to the minimum wage law made by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/Bills\/Bill?ObjectName=2025-SB-0008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 8<\/a> include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">A more aggressive timeline for increasing the minimum wage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Preservation of the tip credit, which would have been eliminated by 2031 under the previous law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The table below provides a more detailed view of what&#8217;s changing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-infogram wp-block-embed-infogram\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"infogram-embed\" data-id=\"_\/EFfJGgrkdwPS683b9k3k\" data-type=\"interactive\" data-title=\"Michigan SB 008\"><\/div><script>!function(e,n,i,s){var d=\"InfogramEmbeds\";var o=e.getElementsByTagName(n)[0];if(window[d]&&window[d].initialized)window[d].process&&window[d].process();else if(!e.getElementById(i)){var r=e.createElement(n);r.async=1,r.id=i,r.src=s,o.parentNode.insertBefore(r,o)}}(document,\"script\",\"infogram-async\",\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed-loader-min.js\");<\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;When I sat down with workers and small business owners to discuss the importance of Michigan&#8217;s tipped wage system, our political differences didn&#8217;t matter &#8211; what mattered was finding a solution that allows small businesses to thrive and keep their doors open,&#8221; said the sponsor of the bill, State Sen.
