Webinar
Managing paid time off across states: Compliance strategies for HR
When: 2pm ET, Wednesday, September 23, 2026
Duration: 60 minutes
Paid time off (PTO), including vacation and sick time, remains one of the most valued employee benefits. At the same time, the growing patchwork of state and local paid time off laws has made leave administration one of the most complex compliance challenges that employers face. Organizations must determine which laws apply, coordinate overlapping requirements, and maintain consistent practices while minimizing compliance risk. For multistate employers, particularly those with remote and hybrid workforces, the challenge is even greater. In many cases, a one-size-fits-all PTO policy is no longer practical, requiring employers to balance jurisdiction-specific requirements with the need for administrative consistency.
In this 60-minute webinar, attorneys Joshua Seidman, Christine Costantino and Renate Walker will examine the most pressing paid time off issues affecting multistate employers and share practical strategies for building compliant, sustainable time off programs. They will discuss how remote work arrangements complicate paid time off administration, highlight common compliance pitfalls. They will also explore approaches to structuring PTO benefits across jurisdictions with differing accrual, carryover, notice, and usage and payout requirements and show how to design paid time off programs that balance compliance obligations with business goals and workforce needs.
Attendees will learn to:
- Identify key paid time off compliance challenges and avoid common pitfalls for multistate employers
- Design time off programs that address varying accrual, carryover, usage and notice requirements
- Apply strategies for consistent time off administration across jurisdictions to mitigate risk
- Structure time off benefits to meet statutory requirements while maintaining benefit flexibility
