When to include

New York employers that have four or more employees and have employees working in New York City should consider including this statement in their handbook to educate their employees about the availability of paid lactation break time and a proper lactation room and to demonstrate compliance with New York State’s Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act and New York City law. Both New York State and New York City have adopted laws that require employers to provide certain break time and space for lactation accommodation. The New York City Human Rights Law (NYCHRL) imposes more detailed and onerous requirements, which are reflected in this policy statement. The policy statement also complies with the more general requirements under state law.

  • Customizable handbook statement
