Iowa employers are required to include a pregnancy disability leave statement in their employee handbook to demonstrate compliance with state law.

When to include

Iowa employers (e.g., individuals, partnerships, corporations) with four or more employees in Iowa should consider including this statement in their handbook to show their compliance with Iowa’s pregnancy disability law and to inform employees, including supervisors, about the availability of leave for employees disabled by pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions.
