Essential final pay compliance practices and strategies for HR

Aired: September 17, 2025
Duration: 60 minutes

Navigating final wage payments during employee termination can be challenging. There are many compliance issues to address that can result in miscalculations if employers aren’t careful, especially for organizations operating in multiple states. Missteps can lead to significant and costly liability and litigation.

Join Brightmine for a 60-minute discussion of final pay practices and issues, with attorney Robert Wennagel, a senior counsel with Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, and Legal Editor Rena Pirsos, Brightmine’s payroll expert. They’ll focus on final wage payment compliance issues such as timing, required documentation and notices. They will also look at other factors involved in final pay like accrued PTO and overtime and address strategies for multistate compliance and taxation issues.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • How to identify permissible and prohibited wage deductions from final pay
  • How bonuses and commissions impact calculations of accurate and compliant final pay amounts
  • The common pitfalls that can lead to noncompliance and increase risk of penalties and lawsuits
  • And more!
