Employees who are dismissed have a statutory right to receive a written statement of the reasons for their dismissal in certain circumstances. This guide explains how to use a letter providing a statement of reasons, including when it is required and how to set out the reasons clearly and lawfully.
Use this model letter when a dismissed employee who has a minimum of two years’ service makes a request to be given a written statement of the reasons for their dismissal. The letter can also be used to respond to a request for a written statement from an employee dismissed while pregnant or on maternity or adoption leave.
